Reliance is a cross of Kanred and Marquis developed by the USDA in 1917. It yielded well under drought conditions and was only slightly lower in protein than Marquis. It was recommended for trial in southwestern Saskatchewan, a particularly drought-prone area, in 1933, although it was never grown on a large amount of acreage.
